David L. Dawson, MD, RVT, RPVI is a vascular surgeon at Baylor Scott & White Health in Temple, TX. He is a clinical professor at Texas A&M University. His clinical practice at includes all aspects of endovascular and open vascular surgery.
Dr. Dawson is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. After surgery residency at the University of Washington, Dr. Dawson completed his vascular surgery fellowship under D. Eugene Strandness, Jr., MD, the “father of the vascular laboratory” and the of the eponymous founder of the symposium. Dr. Dawson has been a regular part of the Strandness Symposium since 1991.
Dr. Dawson entered service in the US Air Force in 1992, after his fellowship with Dr. Strandness. He served for 10 years on active duty and subsequently retired from the Air Force Reserve at the rank of colonel. From 2002 to 2018, he was at UC Davis, were he established the vascular surgery residency and fellowship programs. He was a co-founder of the UC Davis Vascular Center. Additionally, he organized a series of recurring educational programs for vascular care providers.
The non-invasive vascular laboratory has been an area of particular interest for Dr. Dawson. He has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on vascular laboratory topics and was co-editor of the latest edition of Strandness’s Duplex Scanning in Vascular Disorders. He has served in leadership roles for the Alliance for Physician Accreditation & Advancement (APCA), the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) , Intersocietal Accreditation Commission-Vascular Testing (IAC-VT), Joint Review Committee for Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS), and other organizations.
