Nathan J. Aranson, MD FACS RPVI originally hails from Portland, ME but grew up in Leominster, MA. He studied Chemistry and Mathematics at Tufts University graduating Cum Laude in 2001. He was a member of the Varsity Swim Team and the nationally ranked Water Polo Team. Subsequently, he matriculated to UMass Medical School where he was enamored by all things surgically related. The son of a general surgeon, he chose to follow in his father's footsteps and matched into the general surgical residency at LAC + USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. While there, he became interested in vascular surgery under the mentorship of Fred Weaver and Vince Rowe. During his residency he completed two years of research as part of the Harvard Longwood NIH funded T32 program. He then matriculated to the Vascular and Endovascular fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital under the mentorship of past SVS president Richard P Cambria. His first job was at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle where he helped perform the first Physician Modified Endografts for treatment of complex aortic pathology and was one of the first physicians to perform transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) on the West Coast. Eventually he returned to his home and took a job at Maine Medical Center where he served for 5 years as the medical director of the non invasive vascular lab and vein center. During that time he performed the first Gore TBE and the Ellipsys percutaneous AVF in the state of Maine. He recently joined the Vascular Care Group, opening its first Maine office and the first OBL in the state. Clinically he enjoys complex aortic pathology and cerebrovascular disease. In his free time he enjoys all that living in Maine has to offer from hiking to skiing and certainly fishing.
